Woman Of The Year 2010: Gillian Duffy

So Merry Christmas and that, hope Santa got you that thing.

FHM have been in touch and wanted my vote for the Woman of the Year.... So here she is in all her beauty. Yes the 'bigoted lady', Gillian Duffy gets my vote.

Integral in Brown's decline during a visit to Rochdale back in April. Possibly the straw the broke the camels back for many Labour voters. Who quickly became Nick Clegg (of TV fame) fans, as Cleggmania took Britain by storm.... and we all know what happened next.

Happy New Year, Lets Hope It's A Good One.

Wikileaks

Here is Julian Assange, the Editor in Chief of WikiLeaks, revealing leaked cables on A Wheel Of Fortune. My favourite thing to come out, was the huge amount of bitchness involved. There seemed to be more alot more leaked about what people thought of each other than anything else. According to another cable, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, is “vain, feckless” and a serious party boy whose late-night revelries prevent him from being an effective leader. What a lad.

The Mockery of Extradition

As Julian Assange is to be extradited to his native Sweden, Afua Hirsch's article in The Guardian has commented on the sheer amount of people that are now flown out of the UK to face arrest under the Extradition Act. The article can be found here.

In Praise of....Silence

Last week I read an article in The Guardian's Comment section entitled In Praise of...Silence. It was the first time I had heard about the planned release of John Cage's 4'33 in an attempt to beat Simon Cowell & his karaoke competition to the Christmas Number 1 this year.

Under the name Cage Against The Machine (referring to last years efforts from Rage Against The Machine's efforts), members of various bands met up to record 4'33 last week. I think its a mint idea, a perfect revolt against Cowell. Plus its all for charity. The recording has gone on sale this week, so support it and buy buy buy.

PS. I did that daft illustration above.

Process-ting !

I remember when I was younger I used to flick through my Sisters magazines and I used to do these all the time. It would determine my favourite Spice Girl or what type of Ham I should eat.
Here is something I did. Nice one.

Blair's Ghost Still Haunts Downing Street

My illustration, in response to an article in The Guardian in October commenting on how Tony Blair's ideas and aspirations still, live on under the coalition government.
Thee article can be found here.

Cameron Signs French Arms Deal

David Cameron has signed a Anglo-French deal with President Nicolas Sarkozy to share various military equipment, in what makes 'considerable savings in economically strained times'. The article from The Independent is here.

San Francisco Bans Happy Meals

Yes, San Francisco has banned its McDonald's restaurants from selling children's favourite meal. This the latest fight on childhood obesity. Please find the article here.

Miliband Announces Birth On Twitter

Ed Miliband, Labour Leader, announced the birth of his second son on the social networking site, Twitter, earlier this month. The article to go with this rather fine illustration is here.

Time Running Out For Portsmouth

Earlier this year Portsmouth Football Club faced a winding up order from the High Court after failing to pay off club debts. One of many articles on the matter is here.

Movember

Since November began I have been growing (trying) a moustache to raise money for prostate cancer. For those not in the loop it cleverly called 'Movember'. It may sound like a lazy way to raise money, in comparison to riding a bike from John O'Groats to Lands End, but its for a good cause and it all counts. I have been subjected to ridicule for a whole month about my 'five o'clock shadow' or my 'snail trail'. So please give what you can.

Thank You

Euphemistic

Gowned and Crowned above.
Its official I have a degree in illustration. Odd thing with Graduation was the scroll. As you don't collect one on stage, like in the movies, you borrow one for the official photo. Its as big an Anti Climax as when you try to listen to the
'snap' 'crackle' & 'pop' of Rice Krispies.

Oh you. Watch The Trip
Also
Try watching this video and not singing and then imitating it whenever and where ever you walk . Impossible !

Regarding all you Twitter Hooligans,

This is little project I am doing with a couple of 'creative friends'of mine, not that all my friends aren't creative, just these pair think saying your creative means you don't have to have a job.
Its called The Reviews (originality isn't everything)
Basically we are reviewing anything and everything. From Bananas to Soft Drinks, From Frosties to Breed of Dogs.
If we use something (in some way) during the day its up for a possible review.

Enjoy

Been away quite a while so here is whats been a gwarnin since last time, with regards to my Illustration. The aforementioned Art competition set up by Ben Casey from The Chase, at Tom's Chop House in Manchester was alot more efficacious than expected.

The Auction was in support of the North West Air Ambulance and according to the D&aD blog featured 'the best in striking new illustration'. There were over 160 entries submitted from eight northern colleges, which were judged by a panel made up of professional illustrators including Ian Pollock, agents, gallery owners and designers.
I entered two images, one of them being
'Simon Cowell & Jedward' as shown
on display below.(far left)

20 images were then shortlisted for the auction itself on July 1st. The shortlist can be viewed here. One of my 'Kerry Katona Fridge/Freezer' prints (below)sold for an undisclosed fee.

So Thank You to whichever kind soul, with a good sense of humour and taste purchased that. It's also for charity so I am well chuffed.

Oh yes and I graduated.

Pejhy Feature

The Creative Spark show is coming to an end and the working World is fast approaching round the bend.

My work has just been featured on the Pejhy blog.
For those not in the loop, Pejhy is "anything, be it an object, person or occasion that is good, great, liked, loved, enjoyed, delightful, splendid, tremendous, fantastic, magnificent, super."

Basically the website posts things they like. I have been lucky enough to have been asked if they can put my work up. There is also a cheeky little interview with me, answering questions and that. Have a gander here.

Thanks to Jonathan from Pejhy.

I am US bound in a week. Here's my surfin'usa playlist.

Top Of The Pops

Newsflash !

With Creative Spark a week in things are going well. Work has had a positive reaction. Which brings me swiftly on to my first feature.

2 Good
Got this email. "Congratulations! You have been nominated to show your work, from this years Graphics graduates, at the D&AD annual event 'New Blood' in the East End of London. This is a fantastic opportunity to be seen amongst some of the best graduates of 2010."

2 Bad
I fly to America for the summer the day before the event starts, so I cannot attend.

Absolutely gutted I am missing out on it, I can hear Miley Cyrus now, sqealing 'sucks to be you' at me. Like all of dropped England squad members I can say ''it was just nice to be nominated and and have my name banded around with other

But then again I am very lucky to be going all transatlantic.

In other gossip, Ben Casey of design agency The Chase has set up some kind of art auction (I dont really know the details) which my work is going into. So hopefully make some money there. It's not charity vibe - as all the proceeds will be going to me.

Music News.

Leeds band and good friends of mine, Loose Talk Costs Live are using my inky bouquet (above) to front the single, 'Some Nice Flowers' they plan to release in October. Expect some merchandise closer to the time including mugs and hats. They debuted in Sheffield on Monday at Soyo Live and were top dolla. I rate.

also

Vogue's fashionable band of the year, The Heebie Jeebies are playing The Harley next Friday night before they go and tear a new eardrum into Glastonbury. The show will feature four magicians, a dancing elephant inside jelly and yours truly, as guest lead vocalist on (Th)Dem Mad Colours*

Hello

Been quite a while, plodding on with university work. Total of two weeks and two days left then i am a free man. This graduation project is starting to feel like a prison sentence. Baht if i pull my finger out, then all should be fine. In talks with trying to sort out another blog for abit of celebrity bashing so i will keep you, all seven of you, upto date.

I am finally filming the Heebie Jeebies video next week after delays, due to the volcanic ash that is literally everywhere. Hopefully it will be half as good as Hot Chips new vhs.

In other news.... if you're willing to waste a day or two have a bash at the hardest quiz ever and if any of you know anyone collecting the Panini World Cup 2010 sticker album let me know as i have Didier Drogba in swap.

Modern Day Greek Gods Uni Brief

This is my version on the Greek Goddess Aphrodite, as everyones favourite lady Jordan or Katie Price (as she likes to be called).
Works progressing at some pace, not necessarily a fast one. Had a crit today and looks like I'm on the right path just got to choose the right bits of each image. As each God has a collage at A2 size it's just finding the right images for the book.

This is an image I have picked out for Apollo, the Greek God of Healing, Music and Prophecy.Who else but Bono & Geldof eh ?

In other news the 'Where The Wild Things Are' soundtrack is a fantastic album. Spotify it kids !!

TWO1000&TEN

Happy New Year, to whoever reads this poor excuse for a blog.
Works getting done. Slowly. But its New Years Resolution time. I've never done it before.

"The tradition of the New Year's Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar. With two faces, Janus could look back on past events and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year."

Apparently. So i thought it would be good to document my resolutions/aims for the year...So then i can come back and check how pathetic my attempt was.

1/// To Not Waste Time.
Wether it be looking at people on facebook i don't know but think are attractive or knobs or generally sat monged out watching clips of cats fixing printers on youtube.

2/// Be More Productive
With all this free time that i have gained from target one, i will do alot more work. WORK WORK WORK (Pub Club Sleep)

3/// Be Better With Money
I want to go weeks, maybe months without going into the bank to either challenge a charge or put some cash in to stop me going overdrawn.

4/// Not To Moan/Whine Or Bitch
So what if one of my best mates cripples me in football training ? he's a friend and so what if I'm his third best friend ?

5/// Go To At Least 5 Tottenham Games
Yes i support them. I argue till I'm blue in the face about how Assou-Ekotto is the most improved defender in the premiership.

6/// To Not Move Back Home After University
Yes sorry Mum but the quiet streets of Stourport-On-Severn are not for me. Manchester, London, Heck I'd prefer Stoke

7/// To Do Everything I Can Possibly Do For The Ecclesall Meerkats
Yes new boots and a new Ghanaian football this is the year the meerkats can take glory in the Barclays Sheffield Hallam Inter-Murial Trophy Vase.

8/// To Travel
Wether i go back and do Camp America and travel after or travel around Europe. I will answer the Kooks question "do you want to see the world?" Yes Kooks I do.

9/// To Record Music
Suka T & The Runcimans. On It. Big In 2010. Well within a flat above a gun shop.

..and the most important one..

10/// Get A Job As An Illustrator/General Graphic Man/Advertiser/Footballer
Self explanatory.

Busy Year Ahead
